Snorkel Safaris

Warden events are displayed outside the Tavern

The richness of the marine wildlife found around Lundy is unparalleled and includes curious grey seals, beautiful cup corals and magnificent kelp forests. Many of the species are found in greater abundances than in other UK locations. Due to its distinctive marine life and habitats, Lundy was home to the first Marine Nature Reserve, Marine Conservation Zone and No Take Zone. These designations along with the Special Area of Conservation have helped to protect this unique place for all to enjoy.

Snorkel Safaris provide a glimpse of Lundy's magnificent marine life. Under the supervision of an experienced guide you are able to explore the shallow waters of the Landing Bay. Observe species such as spider crab, ballan wrasse and anemones up close and personal in their natural habitat.

Each session lasts approximately 1 hour, including kitting up, a pre-snorkel brief and about half an hour in the water. Sessions cost £20 per person, covering the cost of equipment hire (wetsuit, mask, fins, hoods and snorkel).

To find out if there is a Snorkel Safari planned during your stay, please have a look at the timetable here. To book please either visit reception during your stay or alternatively contact the Warden

Please note that Snorkel Safaris are only open to individuals over the age of 10 and that a medical declaration form must be completed prior to participation. Snorkel Safaris are subject to sea and weather conditions and generally run from May until September. Also please note that due to the popularity of the events, it is advisable to book early.  Later in the year, during pupping season, seals in the landing bay can become more territorial and if seals are displaying any behaviour that concerns instructors, then the session will be cancelled, and participants given a full refund.

A snorkel safari should be seen as a bonus rather than a reason to come to Lundy. Sessions may have to be cancelled at short notice if weather conditions are not suitable. Sessions only run on days when there is no sailing so participants must be staying on the island, and we cannot offer snorkel safaris to day trippers.
