Book free tickets

West Blockhouse stands on the edge of the south side of the Marloes Peninsula, with magnificent views of the Pembrokeshire coast.

Visit this extraordinary Landmark open to the public for the first time since 2015 as part of Cadw Open Doors festival. Entry is free and all are welcome. Advance booking preferred via Eventbrite.

Information on the building and restoration will be available, including children's activity sheets.

Typically, Landmark Open Days do not offer refreshments but you are welcome to bring your own.

Getting here

We highly encourage those who are able to reach West Blockhouse using the public coast paths from Dale and Kete public car parks. From the nearest village of Dale, the walk is around 2.4 miles to the South. You'll pass a secluded beach along the route as you take in the views.

Kete car park (free National Trust) use: SA62 3RR or What3words: decking.openings.stuff

Very limited disabled parking is available at the fort.

Accessibility

West Blockhouse is situated on the cliff edge with steep drops. Due to steps down to the fort and steep slopes, the site is unfortuantely not accessible for wheelchair users, and may not be suitable for those with limited mobility.

We do all we can to enable access wherever possible; if you have any access concerns that you’d like to discuss before visiting, please contact our Booking Enquiries team on 01628 825925 or email [email protected]. The Booking Office is open Mon to Fri - 9am to 5pm.

Children must be supervised at all times and dogs must be kept on a lead.

Open Day entry

Due to the historic nature of our buildings we have a limited capacity for our Open Day events. You may therefore be asked to wait a short time while other visitors finish their visit. Whilst booking is not essential, priority will be given to those who have booked in advance. Thank you for your co-operation.

In the area

At Marloes Sands, on the opposite side of the peninsula, you can explore the shingle beaches and rocky coves, famous for historic shipwrecks, and take a boat trip to Skomer Island, home to fantastic wildlife like Manx shearwaters and puffins. Pembroke Castle, the birthplace of Henry VII, is a magical day out for all with lots of special events for added interest.

Donating to Landmark

As a charity, the Landmark Trust relies on donations to support our work. We couldn’t have rescued over 200 Landmarks without the support of people like you.

Your support saves historic buildings in danger of being lost forever and makes them available for all to experience and enjoy. Your donation could help train the craftspeople needed to restore buildings like this, or it could offer opportunities to young people to experience history first-hand, through our open days and free stays for study groups.
