Join us to explore New Inn on Saturday 14 - Sunday 15 September 2024. We are opening this building in association with Heritage Open Days.

Built in 1478, New Inn bucked the general trend at the time whereby abbeys and monasteries tended to service the needs of the weary traveller. On first inspection New Inn looks like any other run of the mill 15/16th century house of a well-to-do merchant. With lodging rooms either side of a late-medieval hall, the building was in use as an inn by 1478. The New Inn today retains its open hall, once a communal point for weary travellers and those who lived here.

Visit one of Landmark's earliest restorations carried out in 1971-2. The building was in an advanced stage of dereliction and had been declared as unfit for habitation.

Join us on these free open days to learn more about this wonderful building, its history and its restoration. We welcome all ages and encourage you to bring a picnic to enjoy in the garden if the weather is fine.

Free admission. Leaflets about the history of the building will be available.

Open Day entry

Due to the historic nature of our buildings we are making some changes to protect our open day visitors and staff. There will be a limited capacity inside our buildings at Open Day events. You may therefore be asked to wait a short time while other visitors finish their visit. Whilst booking is not essential, priority will be given to those who have booked in advance. Thank you for your co-operation.

We do all we can to enable access wherever possible; for further information or if you have any access concerns that you’d like to discuss before visiting, please contact our Booking Enquiries team on 01628 825925 or [email protected]. The Booking Office is open Mon to Fri - 9am to 5pm.

Donating to Landmark

As a charity, the Landmark Trust relies on donations to support our work. We couldn’t have rescued over 200 Landmarks without the support of people like you.

Your support saves historic buildings in danger of being lost forever and makes them available for all to experience and enjoy.

Your donation could help train the craftspeople needed to restore buildings like this, or it could offer opportunities to young people to experience history first-hand, through our open days and free stays for study groups.

We would be delighted if you felt able to add a gift to your booking today.
