What can we expect staying in a Landmark?
All Landmark Trust properties are self-catering, with a well-equipped kitchen. There is everything you need for modern life, but we do not provide TVs, landline phones or Wi-Fi (with the exception of a couple of properties). Please check the individual Landmark building details for information on mobile phone signal strength. Landmarks are well-furnished with comfortable furniture, space to eat together, and a selection of books and indoor games. Children are always welcome and most buildings allow dogs.
Each Landmark is looked after by a designated Housekeeper who will prepare for your stay. The beds will be made up for your arrival and one large towel and a face towel is provided for each person staying. All buildings have electricity, background heating and hot water.
Why can’t individuals apply for Getaways for Good?
Applications must be made from charities themselves. We rely on charities to validate that these free stays are reaching those who will most benefit from them.
Why are the stays in November and not the summer/school holidays?
Landmark relies on its holiday letting income to pay for the future maintenance of its buildings under a finely balanced business model. Sadly, we could not meet the challenges of our core mission were we to offer stays within peak seasons.
Why are raffle or auction prizes not qualifying purposes for Getaways for Good?
We want to make sure these breaks are allocated those who need them most through a fair selection process, rather than being allocated by chance or according to personal circumstances.
Is there Wi-Fi at Landmark buildings?
The majority of our buildings do not have Wi-Fi, in line with the feedback of the majority of our guests. Of the available properties this year, Calverley Old Hall and Elton House have Wi-Fi.
Some people choose to take a radio or TV with them, although the remoteness of some of our buildings means we cannot always guarantee reception.
Can we bring a dog?
Many Landmarks allow guests to bring dogs. Landmark also waives the £20 per dog charge for Getaways for Good participants. A maximum of two dogs are permitted at any Landmark.
Registered Assistance dogs are permitted at Landmarks that do not usually allow dogs. Proof of certification will be required in advance. Safety information will be provided by the Bookings Enquiry team in this instance to alert dog owners to the possible dangers e.g. steep drops, farm animals etc.
Is there mobile signal?
Not always, especially in our more remote buildings. Please check with us if important to you before selecting a property. Mobile signal guide can also be found on each of the property pages.
What would I do in an emergency?
Landmark guests are given the contact details of the Housekeeper if they need assistance. Local emergency information is provided in the red folder in each Landmark.
How many people can stay?
The buildings offered sleep between 4 and 14 people, but please look carefully at the floor plans included in the building’s page on the website to see how many bedrooms there are in each Landmark. Not everyone in your group may wish to share a bedroom. For safety and insurance reasons, the number of people staying must not exceed the maximum number of beds provided at the Landmark.
How do we get to your buildings?
Some of the Getaways for Good buildings are in town centres and can be reached by public transport and on foot (for example Bath Tower, Elton House, Princelet Street and The Grange). Some are more remote and you will need to drive or be driven to. Detailed directions are sent to every group in advance.
What time is Check-in and Check-out?
Check-in for guests is from 4pm on the day of arrival and Check-out is 10am on the day of departure.
Does the Landmark Trust provide or pay for food or travel during the stay?
No, you (or the organisation applying on your behalf) must provide all food and arrange travel during your stay (with the exception of Lundy where a free helicopter transfer from North Devon is provided). All our buildings are self catering so you will need to bring your food with you or buy it locally.
What does the Landmark Trust pay for?
Landmark provides the building for your stay absolutely free. This includes: all background heating, hot water, electricity and reasonable cleaning at the end of your stay. The beds will be made up for your arrival and there will be clean towels. We do not cover travel or food costs.
What do I need to bring?
Things people like to bring when visiting Landmark’s buildings include: A radio, walking boots, wellies, favourite recipe book, torch, waterproof coat, outdoor games.
Are your buildings suitable for people in a wheelchair / of limited mobility?

Wherever possible, we adapt our buildings to be accessible and several have ground floor bedrooms and bathrooms. However, as is the nature of historic buildings, some include features that may not be easy for those in a wheelchair or of limited mobility, like changes of floor level, or steep, narrow staircases.
