'I’ve produced a higher word count than I would have in three days of working on campus and I feel that the quality of what I have written is better and will need less editing.  The chapter I am currently working on is of central importance to my thesis, so having the time to sit and really think about it without external disturbances was invaluable.

The retreat also gave us the opportunity to bond more as a cohort of medievalists. We were able to discuss our research and ask for advice or recommendations from one another, and we had the opportunity to listen to our resident author give us a preview of the book he is currently working on.'

'We are closer as a team now which is important because of the difficult field we work in. The time away together gave us the chance to write our own projects, plan future projects and support each other with the more experienced researchers helping the more junior ones. We were able to bond over walking and trips to the Farmshop as well as cooking and eating together. There were some great sessions playing games by the big fire which will stay in our memories for ever.'

'I finished a big piece of complicated work for my masters paper. I also used the quiet time to ponder over areas to explore to develop a future PhD proposal.'
