Rural Office for Architecture (ROA) was founded by Niall Maxwell in 2008. The practice is based in rural Wales, but works across the UK on cultural and residential projects; they classify themselves as regionalists. ROA was recently selected by the Architecture Foundation as one of the best emerging practices in the UK, and featured by Rowan Moore in the Observer as one of the best small practices to watch. They have won a RIBA award for every project completed since 2012, recently winning the prestigious RIBA House of the Year 2017 for its ground breaking Carbon Neutral Estate in Kent, Caring Wood.
