Bird Observatory status

Official Bird Observatory

The Lundy Bird Observatory has now been accepted as a fully accredited member of the British & Irish bird observatory network.  This follows a 3 year probationary period where the Lundy Warden team were required to undertake a daily bird census during key migratory seasons, along with bird ringing, among other tasks.  This important reporting will continue to take place to maintain the official status and many sightings will be regularly recorded on the Bird Observatory website.  If you’re holidaying on Lundy and wish to share your sightings, you can do that through the Wardens on the island, or via the website (if you have signal), or if you simply want to know what has been sighted, you can read about them on the daily blog.  So far during March, long tailed tits, razorbills and starlings are just some of the sightings of note.

At the start of March, an estimated 1000 razorbills (image 2) were spotted around the island.

A stonechat (image 3) – a male was spotted at the start or March in St John’s Valley.
