Volunteer gardening day at Calverley Old Hall

Friday 27 September 2024
10am-12pm, 1pm-3pm

Register to volunteer

Are you a keen gardener? Or maybe you have never gardened before but want to have a go and enjoy the outdoors? Join us on the 27th September to help us plant our new community garden at Calverley Old Hall. We are looking for volunteers to come along, get hands on and have a fun couple of hours!

You'll help us plant our brand new beds with edibles, herbs and ornamental plants, and get stuck in with planting spring bulbs ready for the local community to enjoy next year.

Thanks to National Lottery Players, and the National Lottery Heritage Fund, who have made this project possible.

There will be two sessions which each last for 2 hours:
10am-12pm and 1pm-3pm

Please make sure you select the correct slot when you book a space.

The sessions will be informal, supervised by a professional garden designer who has been working with us on our community garden project at Calverley Old Hall.

Please note: All volunteers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Volunteers should wear sensible clothing and sturdy boots or shoes (walking boots if you have them are ideal). For health & safety reasons , if you do not come with appropriate clothing or shoes you may not be permitted to take part in the activity.

Each session will include:

  • Full health & safety briefing
  • Clear instructions on how to use gardening tools and equipment safely
  • Plenty of time for a tea-break!

The activity is outdoors, so please dress for the weather. Please also bring a water bottle.

Getting to us

Calverley Old Hall is situated towards the bottom of Woodhall Road, Calverley and is easily accessible from both Leeds and Bradford. The Hall is situated almost directly opposite 'Mick's Cafe'.

If you are travelling by public transport, there is a regular bus service (number 60 bus) which stops at the bottom of Woodhall Road.

Accessibility

The garden surface is formed of bonded gravel, and is accessible for those in a wheelchair, with flat access around the planting area.

All participants need to have a reasonable level of fitness which will allow them to take part in the activity.

We would be very happy to facilitate your access needs where possible. Please contact us on the email below if you have any access requirements that you would like to discuss beforehand: [email protected].
