Eleanor Coade (1733-1821) is one of Lyme’s most remarkable former residents. For fifty years, this astonishingly successful entrepreneur ran an artificial stone manufactory in Lambeth that transformed late Georgian architecture. For most of her life, she also owned a pretty seaside villa in Lyme, Belmont on Pound Street, still covered in her firm’s architectural decoration and restored by the Landmark Trust in 2015.
To mark Heritage Open Days 2022, Landmark’s Historian Caroline Stanford FSA will give this free public lecture at 6.30pm on Saturday 10th September in Pine Hall, part of the Baptist Church Mrs Coade undoubtedly attended when in Lyme for the summers.
Belmont is also open free on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th of September from 10am - 4pm. Please book tickets for the open days here.
*Please note that there is limited parking at the hall so we would suggest you use a local car park: Woodmead, Holmbush or Broad Street.*
