Banqueting House Open Day

Gibside, near Newcastle upon Tyne

Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 September 2018, 10am to 4pm

The Landmark Trust is opening The Banqueting House in association with Inspired By The Great Exhibition of the North and the first weekend of Heritage Open Days.

Nestled in the forest, The Banqueting House stands in a grassy clearing looking down towards an octagonal pool and the Derwent Valley, in the highest part of Gibside park, near the Column of British Liberty and Gibside chapel.

The building’s elaborate plasterwork is best studied from the double bedroom, where it adorns the walls as well as ceiling, or from the two twin beds situated in the main living room.

Admission is free and leaflets are provided detailing the building's history. For more details view our map for the property.

PLEASE NOTE - There is no parking available at The Banqueting House and open day visitors should park in the free National Trust car park. It is then a 25 minute (1 mile) walk to the Banqueting House along a woodland track. Please wear stout footwear as the path climbs in places. This is the only way to reach The Banqueting House and the shuttle bus is no longer in operation.

Due to the nature of its location, we’re sorry that this building may not be suitable for people with limited mobility. We do try to accommodate additional access needs where possible. If you have any questions about the accessibility of our properties please contact our booking office
