On 11th July our Director Anna Keay took the Landmark Trust Patrons on a private after-hours tour of the Tower of London. Arguably one of the most important secular historic sites in Britain, the Tower of London is now visited by 2 million people a year, but we were privileged to explore the site in the tranquillity of a secluded summer’s evening. As a former curator at the Tower for seven years, Anna led an expert and insider’s tour which included fascinating areas not normally shown to visitors, followed by an intimate drinks reception. In the words of one of our guests, “her obvious enthusiasm for her subject was contagious as well as enlightening.” The sounds of the city seemed distant and hushed, and without the crowds one could truly feel the magic of this historic environment.
