Culloden Tower is a magnificent Landmark close to the beautiful market town of Richmond in North Yorkshire. Originally called the Cumberland Temple, Culloden Tower was built by John Yorke as a monument to celebrate the victory of the Duke of Cumberland's army over Bonnie Prince Charlie near Inverness in April 1746. Inside, two bright octagonal rooms at the top of the four storey tower are flooded with daylight, and contain a rich mix of Gothic and Classical carving and plasterwork. Situated on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, and with the River Swale within sight and earshot, it is perfectly located for setting out on some frosty autumn or winter walks in this beautiful part of the countryside.
