Now in its second year, Landmark Futures offers free study breaks in our historic buildings to higher education institutions and other qualifying organisations - time away in beautiful surroundings to facilitate both individual and collaborative research activities.

Thank you to everyone who applied for a Landmark Futures stay. We're delighted to announce our beneficiaries for 2019 - click here to learn more.

Light bulb moments

These stays are for small groups of up to 8-10 people for academic purposes: study, discussion, teaching, field study, writing etc.

We want time in our beautiful historic places and natural landscapes to enable ‘light bulb’ moments across the field of human activity, both collaboratively within a study field and also for individual students’ work.

"Staying at Howthwaite for this writing retreat made an absolutely huge difference to the research process for our group project...this was a crucial opportunity for us to consolidate work that we have been undertaking individually.

The excellent facilities at Howthwaite, the peace and quiet, the access to the surrounding beautiful environment...all made an excellent backdrop to the process and resulted in an extremely productive three days"
