Pete Smith

Pete Smith is an Independent Architectural Historian. He recently retired after nearly 30 years with English Heritage, first as a Listing Inspector and later as a Senior Architectural Investigator. The latter role involved him in helping to research the history and development of Apethorpe Hall in Northamptonshire, the results of which are included in the recent book Apethorpe, The Story of an English Country House edited by Dr Kathryn Morrison.

 

He has lectured extensively and published widely on various aspects of the English country house, and co-authored with Dr Rosalys Coope a mongraph entitled Newstead Abbey. A Nottinghamshire Country House: Its Owners and Architectural History 1540-1931.

 

He is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries and at present Joint Events Secretary for the Society of Architectural Historians of Great Britain.
