A number of Landmarks have regular times when they are open for visiting. Other Landmarks are adjacent to museums or gardens which are open to the public or have small museum rooms within the building.

Ancient House Museum, Suffolk

Auchinleck House, Ochiltree, Ayrshire

Perhaps the finest example of an eighteenth century country villa to survive in Scotland, this was the family home of James Boswell, the famous 18th century diarist and biographer of Samuel Johnson. .

Ground floor of the house, including Museum Room, is open for visits by appointment on Wednesday afternoons from the Wednesday after Easter to the end of October. The grounds will be open throughout the spring and summer. A guide book is available for £3.50. Contact the Booking Office to make an appointment.

Beckford's Tower Museum, Bath

A collection displaying furniture originally made for the Tower, alongside paintings, prints and objects illustrating William Beckford's life as a writer, collector and patron of the arts. Casa Guidi, Piazza S. Felice, Florence

A suite of rooms on the first floor of the Palazzo Guidi in which the poets Elizabeth and Robert Browning lived for many years.

Part of the apartment is open for visits on Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons 3pm to 6pm between April and the end of November. Appointments are not needed.

Crownhill Fort, Plymouth

Restored and managed by the Landmark Trust, this elaborate Victorian fortress offers a day out for families, schools and history enthusiasts.

Crownhill Fort is open for visits by appointment during working hours and in addition we will hold free public open days, with historic re-enactment groups and cannon firings.

The grounds of Gargunnock House are open to the public on Wednesdays (2pm to 5pm) from mid-April to mid-June and on Wednesdays throughout September and October.

Goddards, Abinger Common, Surrey

Goddards was built by Edwin Lutyens in 1898-1900 and enlarged by him in 1910. It is considered to be one of his most important early houses designed in the traditional Surrey style and with a garden laid out in collaboration with Gertrude Jekyll.

Part of the ground floor and the garden are open for visits by appointment on Wednesday afternoons from 2.30pm to 5pm from the Wednesday after Easter until the last Wednesday of October. Only those with pre-booked tickets will be admitted. Tickets cost £4 and are available from Mrs Baker on 01306 730871 (Please call between 9am and 6pm, Monday to Friday). A guide book is available for £2.

The Grange, Ramsgate, Kent

The Grange was built and lived in by Augustus Welby Pugin and remained in his family until 1928.  It was here that Pugin produced much of his finest work, including the interiors of the House of Lords. 

The main rooms on the ground floor are open by appointment every Wednesday afternoon (except the Christmas and New Year period) to a maximum of 30 people.  Entry is free of charge.  Anyone wishing to visit will need to make an appointment. A guide book is available for £4. 

There is also a small exhibition in the Cartoon Room, a separate building next to The Grange, which provides information about the building, its history and the Pugin family. The Cartoon Room is open on Wednesday afternoons from 2pm - 4pm or by appointment.  It is also available to hire for suitable functions.

The exterior of the building and the garden can be viewed on certain days.

Lundy Island, Bristol Channel, Devon

Lundy lies off the coast of North Devon, where the Atlantic ocean meets the Bristol Channel with nothing between it and America, a granite outcrop, three and a half miles long and half a mile wide. The MS Oldenburg takes day visitors to the island between end of March and end of November. Visit www.lundyisland.co.uk for further information.

Villa Saraceno, Finale, Vicenza

A Palladian villa dating from 1550, built for a nobleman from Vicenza as a country retreat and a working farm. Inside, the loggia and sitting rooms are decorated with lively frescoed friezes.

Parts of the Villa are open for visits on Wednesday afternoons (2pm to 4pm) between 1 April to 31 October. Appointments are not needed. A guide book is available for 5 euros.

Wilmington Priory, near Eastbourne, East Sussex

Wilmington Priory was a cell of the Benedictine Abbey at Grestain in Normandy and dates back to 1215. The priory has been added to and altered in every way, some of which has been lost to ruin and decay. What remains shows how prestigious the priory once was.

Open days for the building are held on eight days a year. The grounds, porch, crypt and ruins are open for 30 days between April and October. Please contact the Booking Office for dates.

Woodspring Priory Museum, near Weston-super-Mare, Somerset

A museum room and collection of artefacts illustrating the history of this ancient site, founded to atone for the martyrdom of Thomas à Becket. Open most Mondays and Fridays (except Bank Holidays) between 10.30am and 3.30pm. Please contact the Booking Office before your visit, to confirm that the museum is open.
