Silverton, near Cullompton, Devon

Silverton Park Stables, Devon

Silverton Park Stables for 5 to 14 people

Silverton Park Stables provides the perfect setting in which to relax and unwind. Its rooms are built around a sunny courtyard and the building is set within historic parkland. The carriage house has become a large handsome sitting and dining room, while the grooms' accommodation now forms elegant bedrooms, several with ensuite bathrooms.

Due to the layout of the bedrooms, we are able to offer the building to groups smaller than the full capacity. Silverton is available for groups of 5, 7, 9, 11 or 14 people. You will have the building to yourselves and any additional bedrooms will be closed off.

Floor plans showing which rooms are available for each group size can be viewed here (pdf 185KB).

History

The house known as Silverton Park was erected for the 4th Earl of Egremont from 1839-45. Nephew of the 3rd Earl, he is said to have been put out to inherit the title but not the great family seat at Petworth, and so set out to build a mansion worthy of his earldom.

His architect, James Thomas Knowles Senior, designed a huge house reported to have had 187 rooms, occupying an acre of ground. But as the Earl died in 1845, the interior of the house was never fully completed and in 1902 it was totally demolished, leaving only the unfinished stable block and carriage house. The bedrooms are now set around the cobbled quadrangle stableyard ? a perfect setting for a family celebration or gathering of friends.

Landmark acquired Silverton Park Stables over 20 years ago and for the past few years our specialist team worked on site to restore the structure and give it a new future as an inspiring place to stay. Now complete, Silverton Park Stables is available for long or short holidays and can accommodate up to 14 people.
