Landmark and learning

Enjoyment, knowledge and appreciation

Print page

Laughton PlaceIncreasing knowledge and appreciation of our sites and their history has lain at the heart of Landmark's activities since it was founded in 1965.

All our buildings and their settings have been carefully researched and analysed, whether by our own staff or others. The restoration process and the craft skills involved are also of great interest to many.

Experiencing our Buildings and their Settings

A History Album for each Landmark summarises this information for the interest of those who stay there and anyone else who contacts us. Each building is also illuminated by its own collection of carefully chosen books, relevant to the building, its history and locality. Many have booklets specially written for the children who also stay there, to encourage them to discover the building and its history for themselves at their own level.

Open Day at The Grange

At regular Open Days, we provide free access for all, with free sheets summarising the building's history. Information sheets for children are also usually available. Where possible, Open Days are timed to coincide with other local events. Increasingly, we also work with local schools and other groups to include them in learning about and enjoying our buildings. In 2006 we ran an education project with four schools local to Clavell Tower.  The education pack created for this project is now available for general use.

We aim to inform a still wider audience through our publications – our Handbook (which gives an account of each of Landmark's buildings), our twice yearly Newsletter, quarterly email updates and our website.
