Bramble Villa is in the St John's valley, on the site of a ruinous corrugated iron building of the same name, and the same rather colonial appearance. It was shipped, ready-made from the mainland, and put up to house those who were to carry out restoration work for us on Lundy. Now divided into two, the East side looks over the sea towards Devon and has the light off the sea in its rooms.

Castle Cottage
Lundy

Bristol Channel, Devon

Castle Cottage is a granite structure built against the Castle Keep by the Post Office in 1887 as a cable station. When first extended and converted, it was the second holiday cottage on the island. Its living-room is dominated by the spectacular view overlooking the landing bay.

Castle Keep East
Lundy

Bristol Channel, Devon

The castle was built by Henry III in about 1250 and paid for by the sale of rabbits. High up on the south-east point of the island, it replaced the earlier castle of the unruly Mariscos, and was more recently held by the royalists in the Civil War. By 1787 cottages had been built round the small courtyard inside the Keep. Three of these have been rebuilt by us and Castle Keep East is a snug and sociable retreat for two.

Government House
Lundy

Bristol Channel, Devon

Government House was designed by Philip Jebb to house whoever runs the island, and to make use of, and preserve the fine granite dressings left when additions to Old House were removed. However, our agents since have unselfishly preferred to remain in humbler quarters, so it is available for you to stay in. It is one of the best houses we possess, and so well sited that it seems always to have been there, sheltered on three sides and looking down towards the Milcombe valley towards the sea.

Hanmers
Lundy

Bristol Channel, Devon

Hanmers was built by a fisherman in 1902. He chose a good site, a dip in the hill, on the path from the beach to the castle, so the place is sheltered but has the wonderful view out to sea towards Devon. It is weather-boarded outside and its interior is also of wood, painted white in the front rooms, which gives it a warm and solid feel.
