Keeper's Cottage
Shuttleworth

Old Warden, Bedfordshire

Keeper's Cottage is tucked away in the pinewoods and ferns at the foot of the warren on the Shuttleworth estate. It is a model gamekeeper's establishment as might have been found in a nineteenth-century pattern book, in the tradition of the orne but in a sturdily handsome way.

Queen Anne’s Summerhouse
Shuttleworth

Old Warden, Bedfordshire

The outstandingly fine brickwork of this satisfyingly foursquare folly makes it likely to date from the early eighteenth century, as its name suggests. The summerhouse was later renovated by Joseph Shuttleworth earning its date stone of 1878, and continued to serve as a pavilion through the estate's golden Edwardian years. Surrounded by the flora and fauna of beautiful woodland, with the model village of Old Warden just down the drive, this is a magical spot.
